Photographs, correspondence, reports, magazine and newspaper clippings, and other materials related to the May 15, 1970, shootings on the Jackson State College campus, when Mississippi law enforcement officers opened fire on protesting students. Two students, Phillip L. Gibbs and James Earl Green, were killed and twelve others wounded.

Photographs, audiotapes, and videotapes related to the 1970 shooting on the campus of Jackson State College by Mississippi law enforcement officers. Two students, Phillip L. Gibbs and James Earl Green, were killed and twelve others wounded. Includes copy of an audio clip of the 30-second shooting barrage.

Materials related to the life of Jane Ellen McAllister (1899-1996). Among many distinguished accomplishments, McAllister was the first African American woman to receive a doctorate in education from the Teacher's College from Columbia University in 1929. The collection primarily documents her career as a professor of teacher education from 1951 to 1969 at Jackson State College, including her groundbreaking work with rural African American schools in Mississippi in the 1950s. In addition, the collection contains a limited number of nineteenth-century documents relating to McAllister's family, which depict the life of a professional African American family in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

450 photographs documenting the life and work of Jane Ellen McAllister (1899-1996) and her family. Photographs of McAllister's family in Vicksburg, MS, from the 1860s to 1930s depict Jackson College, the Cherry Hill School, African American soldiers and mail carriers, and family gatherings. Also included are photographs documenting McAllister's teacher training programs and workshops at Jackson State College in the 1950s and 1960s. Photographs of the National Institute for Teachers and Supervisors of Disadvantaged Youth from 1965 to 1967 also portray the Jackson Project Head Start.
